516 Summit Avenue

“Lemon Meringue Pie’’ house  (Page & Koblas,86) was Sinclair Lewis' favorite name for this Summit Avenue structure.  Walter Butler, treasurer of the Butler Brothers Construction Company, built the house.  It is an Italian Renaissance Beaux Arts design in yellow brick with white marble quoins, porches and window surrounds under a green tile roof.

Lewis and family rented it in 1917 - 1918 when he was working on a book about James J.Hill and writing Hobohemia
